ABOUT
Brian Strang is a visual artist, poet and musician.
He has had several solo exhibits of his paintings at galleries in the San Francisco Bay Area such as Canessa Park Gallery, Free Oakland Utopian Project and Econo Jam Records (First Fridays). Dozens of them are also in private collections.
Strang is the author of four full-length books of poems including, most recently, Are You Afraid? (Duration Press, 2022), reviewed in Poetry Flash in July. His poems, translations and essays have appeared in many journals, including Big Other, New American Writing, The Denver Quarterly, Inside Higher Ed. and (translated) in the Portuguese journal DiVersos. He was also a founding editor of 26: A Journal of Poetry and Poetics in the early 2000’s.
From 2011 to 2021, he played guitar in the instrumental trio Crow Crash Radio and currently has a solo music project, The Ripoff Hippies.
He has been teaching writing at San Francisco State University for over 25 years.
